By accessing or using QuizNote at quiznote.online (the "App"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service ("Terms"). If you do not agree, please do not use the App.
If you are using the App on behalf of a minor (anyone under 18), you represent that you are the minor's parent or legal guardian. You accept these Terms on the minor's behalf and are responsible for the minor's use of the App.
QuizNote is a browser-based music theory practice app. It presents short rounds of interactive questions on topics including staff reading, note values, key signatures, intervals, scales, and chord identification, designed to help learners build fluency in Western tonal music theory.
The App is fluency-targeted rather than age-targeted. It is suitable for learners of any age, from absolute beginners through intermediate-level study.
Current state (beta): The App is free, requires no account, and stores all practice data locally in your browser. No user data is transmitted to or stored on our servers.
Planned additions: Accounts with sign-in, cloud sync of practice data, and optional paid subscription tiers. These features are described in Sections 6, 7, and 8, and will be activated only after these Terms are reviewed by legal counsel and updated with an effective date for each feature.
Features, content, and availability may change at any time during the beta period.
Age. Anyone may use the free, local-only version of the App. When accounts and paid features are introduced, account holders must be at least 18 years old (or the age of majority in their jurisdiction). Minors may use the App through a child profile managed by a parent or guardian account holder (see Section 6).
Geography. PLANNED When accounts and payments are introduced, the service will initially be available to users in the United States only. You will be asked to confirm your country during signup. Payment methods issued outside the United States will be declined. We may expand availability to additional countries in the future, at which time these Terms will be updated.
You may use QuizNote for personal, educational, and non-commercial purposes. Teachers and schools are welcome to use the App in educational settings at no cost during the beta period.
You may not use the App in any way that violates applicable law or these Terms.
You agree not to:
Today (local-only beta). QuizNote uses on-device profiles to track learning progress. A profile may include a nickname you choose, a color, an optional self-reported experience level, and a log of practice rounds (module, difficulty tier, score, and time). All profile data is stored locally in your browser's localStorage. We do not transmit this data to our servers and cannot see it. Multiple profiles can exist on a single device, and any profile can be deleted from within the App.
Planned: adult accounts. PLANNED We plan to introduce optional user accounts. An account will be held by an adult (18+) and authenticated via third-party sign-in providers (initially Apple and Google). The account holder is responsible for all activity under the account.
Planned: child profiles. PLANNED An adult account holder may create one or more child profiles nested under their account. Child profiles are owned and managed entirely by the adult account holder. A child profile is for a learner under 18 whose practice is supervised by the adult account holder.
Account security. PLANNED You are responsible for maintaining the security of your sign-in credentials. You agree to notify us promptly at support@quiznote.online if you become aware of any unauthorized use of your account.
We plan to introduce cloud sync so that signed-in users can access their practice data across devices.
Cloud sync will be activated only after these Terms and our Privacy Policy are updated with feature-specific effective dates.
We plan to introduce optional paid subscription tiers. Nothing in the current version of these Terms creates any obligation to pay for anything. The following describes the planned payment model.
Payment processor. All payment processing will be handled by Stripe. QuizNote will never receive, store, or have access to your full credit card number or payment credentials. Your payment information is submitted directly to Stripe and governed by Stripe's terms of service and privacy policy.
Free trial. New subscriptions will begin with a 7-day free trial. You will not be charged during the trial period. If you cancel before the trial ends, no charge will be made. If you do not cancel, your subscription will automatically convert to a paid subscription at the end of the trial.
Pricing cohorts. QuizNote may offer different pricing tiers based on when you join or other factors:
Specific prices will be displayed at the point of purchase. We will provide notice before any price increase takes effect on your account.
Auto-renewal. Subscriptions automatically renew at the end of each billing period (monthly or annual, as selected at purchase) unless you cancel before the renewal date. You can cancel at any time through the App or by contacting us. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period — you retain access until then.
Refunds. Refund requests will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis. Please contact support@quiznote.online for refund inquiries.
US-only payments. Payment methods issued outside the United States will be declined. This restriction is in place while the service is limited to US availability (see Section 3).
All content in the App — including quiz questions, educational content, UI design, audio, graphics, and code — is the property of QuizNote or its licensors and is protected by applicable intellectual property laws.
Nothing in these Terms grants you ownership of any QuizNote content. You receive a limited, revocable, non-exclusive license to use the App for personal, non-commercial educational purposes only.
Music theory itself — intervals, scales, chords, notation — is part of the public domain. Our expression and presentation of that knowledge is what is protected.
Progress summaries you export or share from the App (for example, “Practice Notes” images or PDFs generated by the dashboard) are for your personal, non-commercial use. They may carry QuizNote branding, which you may not remove or alter, or use in any way that implies QuizNote’s endorsement.
We make reasonable efforts to ensure the accuracy of music theory content, but we do not guarantee that all content is free from errors. The App is an educational practice tool and is not a substitute for qualified instruction. If you find an error, please let us know at support@quiznote.online.
During the beta period, features may be added, modified, or removed without notice.
Our total cumulative liability to you for any claim arising out of or relating to these Terms or the App shall not exceed the greater of (a) one hundred dollars ($100) or (b) the total amount you have paid to QuizNote in the twelve (12) months immediately preceding the event giving rise to the claim.
You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless QuizNote and its operators from and against any claims, liabilities, damages, losses, costs, or expenses (including reasonable attorneys' fees) arising out of or related to: (a) your use of the App, (b) your violation of these Terms, (c) your violation of any third-party rights, or (d) any activity under your account (when accounts are available), including activity by child profiles you have created.
QuizNote uses the following third-party services:
These services may collect technical access information (such as IP address and browser type) as part of normal operation. Their use of such data is governed by their respective privacy policies. QuizNote is not responsible for the privacy or security practices of third-party services.
By you. You may stop using the App at any time. During the current beta (no accounts), no formal termination process exists. When accounts are available, you may delete your account through the App, which will remove your data from our servers.
By us. We reserve the right to suspend or terminate your access to the App, or to discontinue the App entirely, at any time and for any reason, with or without notice. If we terminate your account and you have an active paid subscription, we will issue a pro-rata refund for the unused portion of your current billing period.
Provisions of these Terms that by their nature should survive termination shall survive, including intellectual property, disclaimers, limitation of liability, and indemnification.
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Oklahoma, United States, without regard to its conflict-of-law provisions. Any dispute arising from these Terms or your use of the App shall be resolved in the state or federal courts located in Oklahoma.
We may update these Terms from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. For material changes — especially those related to the introduction of accounts, data collection, or paid features — we will provide prominent notice within the App before the change takes effect.
If you have an account at the time of a material change, we will notify you via the email address associated with your account. Your continued use of the App after the updated Terms take effect constitutes your acceptance of the revised Terms.
